Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN (Internet) port of your D-Link DSL-2877A or DSL-2877AL router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an Ethernet cable. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or mobile device is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router’s Admin Panel
Open a web browser on a connected device and enter 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. Log in using the default username admin and leave the password field blank unless it has already been changed. If you cannot remember your login details, proceed to Step 7 to reset the router.
Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection
Once logged in, navigate to Setup > Internet Setup. Set the Internet Connection Type to Ethernet WAN. Enable VLAN tagging if required by your Zeronet connection. Enter VLAN ID 10, set IP Version to IPv4, and choose Dynamic IP Address. Set the MTU to 1500, then save or apply the changes.
Step 4: Save and Apply Settings
After entering all settings, click Save or Apply. The router may restart automatically to apply the new configuration. Allow a few minutes for the restart to complete.
Step 5: Verify the Internet Connection
Check the WAN/Internet indicator on the router. It should show a solid green light, indicating an active connection. Test connectivity on a connected device by opening a website.
Step 6: Basic Troubleshooting
If the internet connection is not working, restart both the ONT and the router by unplugging them for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in. Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected and that the Dynamic IP and VLAN settings are correct.
Step 7: Reset the Router if Required
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten login credentials or misconfiguration, reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip until the lights begin to flash. After the router reboots, log in using the default credentials and repeat the setup from Step 2.
