Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN (Internet) port on your D-Link DIR-882 AC2600 router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an Ethernet cable. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or mobile device is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
Open a web browser on a connected device and enter 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. Log in using the default username admin and password admin, unless these details have already been changed. If you cannot remember your login details, proceed to Step 8 to reset the router.
Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection Type
Once logged in, navigate to Setup > Internet Setup. Set the internet connection type to Dynamic IP (DHCP) and save the changes.
Step 4: Configure VLAN Settings
In the router interface, go to Advanced > VLAN. Enable VLAN Tagging, set the VLAN ID to 10 and the Priority to 0, then save or apply the changes.
Step 5: Save and Apply Settings
After entering the Dynamic IP and VLAN settings, save or apply the configuration. The router may restart automatically to apply the new settings. Allow a few minutes for the restart to complete.
Step 6: Verify the Internet Connection
Once the router has restarted, check the WAN or Internet LED indicator. It should be solid green, indicating an active connection. On a connected device, try accessing a website to confirm that the internet connection is working.
Step 7: Basic Troubleshooting
If the internet is not working, restart both the ONT and the router by unplugging them for about 30 seconds and then plugging them back in. Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected and confirm the Dynamic IP and VLAN settings in the router’s configuration.
Step 8: Reset the Router if Required
If you are unable to access the router due to forgotten login credentials or misconfiguration, reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip until the lights begin to flash. After the router reboots, log in using the default credentials and repeat the setup from Step 2.
