Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN (Internet) port on your D-Link DIR-825 AC1200 router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an Ethernet cable. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or mobile device is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
Open a web browser on a device connected to the router and enter dlinkrouter.local or 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. Log in using the default username admin and password admin, or the password printed on the router label if it has not been changed. If you cannot remember the login credentials, reset the router and repeat Step 2.
Step 3: Setup via the Quick Start Wizard
Follow the on-screen setup wizard. Choose Wired Connection as the connection method and Router as the work mode. Set the Connection Type to Dynamic IP (DHCP) and tick Use VLAN. Enter VLAN ID 10. Configure the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless network names and passwords if you wish to customize them. Complete the wizard and apply the settings.
Step 4: Configure Internet Connection Settings
Open Advanced Settings, navigate to WAN settings, and confirm the connection uses Dynamic IP (DHCP). Ensure Enable Connection, NAT, and Firewall are turned on. Set the MTU to 1500 and DNS to obtain automatically. Apply the changes.
Step 5: Configure VLAN Settings
In Advanced Settings, navigate to VLAN. Enable VLAN tagging, enter VLAN ID 10, select the WAN port, and apply the changes.
Step 6: Save Your Configuration
Click Apply to save all settings. The router may restart automatically. Allow a few minutes for the restart to complete.
Step 7: Verify the Internet Connection
Check the WAN/Internet LED on the router. It should be solid green, indicating an active connection. Test the connection by opening a website on a connected device.
Step 8: Troubleshooting
If the internet is not working, restart both the ONT and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected and that the VLAN and Dynamic IP settings are correct. If needed, reset the router to factory settings and repeat the setup from Step 2.
