Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the LAN 4 port on your D-Link AC3200 DIR-890L to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an Ethernet cable. Ensure the router is powered on and your computer or mobile device is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
Open a web browser on a device connected to the router and enter 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. Log in using the default username admin and password admin, or the password printed on the router if it has not been changed.
Step 3: Configure Internet Settings
Navigate to Settings > Internet. Set the WAN Access Type to Residential Gateway. Open Advanced Settings, set the Ether WAN Port to Port 4, and enable VLAN tagging. Enter VLAN ID 10 and set Priority to 0. Set the Internet connection type to Dynamic IP (DHCP) and set the MTU to Auto or 1500. Apply the settings.
Step 4: Save the Configuration
After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click Apply to save the configuration. The router may restart automatically. Allow a few minutes for the restart to complete.
Step 5: Verify the Internet Connection
After the router restarts, check the WAN or Internet LED on the router. It should be solid green, indicating an active connection. Test the connection by opening a website on a connected device.
Step 6: Troubleshooting
If the internet connection is not working, restart both the ONT and the router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Confirm the Ethernet cable is connected to the correct ports and that the VLAN and DHCP settings are correct.
Step 7: Reset the Router (If Required)
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten credentials or misconfiguration, reset it to factory settings. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip until the lights flash. Wait for the router to reboot, then log in with the default credentials and repeat the setup steps from Step 2.
