Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
1. Connect your Router to the ONT
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Fibre/Internet port on your Arcadyan Smart Modem 2 to the provisioned port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT). The correct ONT port is usually labelled LAN1 or GE1 — check any setup messages from Zeronet for confirmation. Ensure the router is plugged in and powered on. Then connect your computer or mobile device to the router either using Wi‑Fi or a LAN cable.
2. Access the Router’s Admin Panel
Open a web browser on a device connected to the router and enter 192.168.1.254 (or 192.168.1.1) into the address bar. When prompted, log in with the default credentials: username admin and password admin. If you have previously changed these and cannot remember them, you may need to reset the router (see Step 7).
3. Configure Internet Connection & VLAN
Once logged in, go to Network Settings > WAN. Set the WAN Type to Ethernet WAN and save. Then select Edit under the WAN interface.
For VLAN and connection settings:
- Set WAN Connection Type to Automatic IP (DHCP)
- Enable WAN: Yes
- Enable 802.1Q
- Internet VLAN ID: 10
- Priority: 0
- Enable automatic DNS
Click Apply or Save to confirm the settings.
4. Save the Configuration
After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click the Save button. The router may automatically restart to apply the new settings — wait a few minutes for this to complete.
5. Verify the Internet Connection
Once the router has restarted, check the WAN/Internet LED indicator on the router. It should be solid green if there is a successful connection. You can also open a browser on your connected device to access a website and confirm connectivity.
6. Troubleshooting
If you are not getting an active internet connection:
- Turn off both the ONT and the router, wait 30 seconds, then power them back on.
- Double‑check that the VLAN and DHCP settings were entered correctly.
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected from the ONT to the correct WAN port on the router.
7. Reset the Router (If Required)
If you are unable to log in due to forgotten credentials or if the configuration is incorrect, you can reset the router back to factory settings:
- Find the small reset button on the back of the router.
- Use a pin or paperclip to press and hold the button for about 10–15 seconds until the router’s lights flash.
- Release the button — the router will reboot and return to factory defaults.
- After the reset, log in using the default credentials (
admin/admin) and repeat the setup from Step 2..
