Mobile data keeps you connected when you’re out in the wild and away from WiFi. It stinks to run out just as you need Maps, Socials or an Uber.
Some people need loads of data to catch up on the news, watch videos or catching up on work on the train. Youngsters can burn through it keeping in touch with friends and checking social media. Some people need less, as they have more consistent access to WiFi or they’re not online a lot, and unused data is a waste.
If you know how much data you use, you’ll know how much you need. You can then buy the right Zeronet plan for you. You can switch to a higher data plan anytime or a lower data plan when it’s time to renew.
Work out how much you use.
- Find out how much data is on your current plan
- Now think about the last few months on your mobile: Do you run out of data a lot? Or do you have unused data that you can’t rollover to next month?
- You can see exactly what you’ve used in the data usage settings on your phone.
- Look at the numbers next to each app to see how much each app uses per month. Do some maths and see if that works on your current plan.
- If all these apps need to stay, get a plan with enough data to use them, plus a bit extra.
- When you're using a phone with Dual SIM, make sure you look at each profile separately and get the right plan for each.
How to reduce your data use
Before you decide on your Zeronet data plan, look for ways to reduce your data use as you may not need as much as you think. This means you save your data for the best stuff.
Delete unused apps. You can look into how much data your apps use, and delete those that use a lot of data.
Turn off data for some apps: If you don’t use an app a lot but don’t want to delete it, turn the data off and use the app only when there’s WiFi available.
Use WiFi whenever possible: If you have WiFi access, use it and turn off your data during that time. Don’t be shy about asking a café for their WiFi password (just buy a coffee or two as well).
Enable and use WiFi calling: Use WiFi calling to make and receive calls in any location covered by WiFi, both here and overseas.
Turn off background app refresh for apps – this means those apps won’t constantly update themselves in the background – this saves data and battery life. Do this in settings and you’ll need to do it separately for each app.
Now it's time to decide on your plan:
