If you have just placed a fibre order with Zeronet and you're curious about when you will be up and running, this guide will answer some of the common questions that you may have.
What equipment is required?
There are only two crucial pieces of equipment required to get your connection up and running:
How do I order a router?
We offer a TP-Link router as an add-on when you order your connection through us. This router doesn't require any configuration to work with the Zeronet network, so you just need to plug it in, and it's ready to go.
If you are already signed up and would like to order a new router, email us at care@zeronet.co.nz
Order Types
The time it takes to get your fibre connection operating depends on the type of order you wish to place.
Installs
If you have placed an order for a fibre connection and no ONT is installed at the property, we will go ahead and arrange with your Local Fibre Company (LFC) to send a technician to install it.
The technician will assess the property to find a suitable location to install the ONT. They will discuss this assessment with you, as they might need to contact neighbours for consent in cases where the installation would impact their properties.
The timeframe for ONT installations will vary depending on the work that needs to be done connecting the device to the cable on the street.
For more information on this process, please see this article on the installation process
Activations
If an ONT is already installed on the property, we will be able to activate your connection within a day in most cases. Certain LFCs can take up to three business days to process this order.
Transfers
Sometimes the previous residents don't disconnect their service on the ONT, so we will need to disconnect their service before your Zeronet connection can be activated. We will need to provide the LFC with the name of the previous provider, so they can disconnect the active service and activate your new connection.
This process will take between one to three business days. However, if you can't identify the previous provider, this could take three to five business days.
Upgrades
Chorus' 3rd generation ONT can broadcast its own Wi-Fi signal, eliminating the need to purchase a router. We highly recommend installing these, where possible, not only because it simplifies your home network but also because it reduces your power consumption and e-waste production.
Email us at care@zeronet.co.nz to find out if you are eligible for an upgrade.
Do I need to contact my current provider?
Most Internet Service Providers require at least 30 days' notice for connection switches.
It is important that you take care of this because you may get charged for an extra month, depending on the provider's policies.
