Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect an Ethernet cable from the WAN port on your ASUS RT-AX58U router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal, usually labelled LAN1 or GE1. Please check your Zeronet connection details to confirm the correct port. Make sure the router is powered on and your device is connected to the router using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
On a device connected to the router, open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. When prompted, log in to the router using the default username admin and password admin, unless these have been changed previously.
Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection
From the router menu, go to WAN and then Internet Connection. Set the WAN Connection Type to Automatic IP (DHCP). Ensure authentication is set to None, then apply and save the settings.
Step 4: Set the VLAN Configuration
Navigate to LAN and then IPTV. Set the ISP Profile to Manual Setting. Enter VLAN ID 10 for the Internet field and set the Priority to 0. Leave the remaining fields blank and apply the changes.
Step 5: Apply Settings
Once the WAN and VLAN settings have been entered, click Apply. The router may restart automatically. Allow a few minutes for the router to fully reboot before continuing.
Step 6: Check the Internet Connection
After the router has restarted, check that the Internet or WAN indicator light is on and stable. Open a website on a connected device to confirm that the connection is working.
Step 7: Basic Troubleshooting
If the internet is not working, power off both the ONT and the router for 30 seconds, then turn them back on. Confirm the Ethernet cable is connected to the correct ports and recheck that the WAN and VLAN settings are correct.
Step 8: Factory Reset If Needed
If you cannot access the router or the configuration is incorrect, reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 to 15 seconds using a paperclip until the lights begin to flash. Wait for the router to reboot, then repeat the setup process.
