Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN port on your ASUS RT-AX52 router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal using an Ethernet cable. This is usually labelled LAN1 or GE1. Please check your Zeronet connection details to confirm the correct port. Ensure the router is powered on and your computer or mobile device is connected to the router using Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
Open a web browser on a device connected to the router and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. When prompted, log in using the default username admin and password admin, unless these details have been changed previously.
Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection
From the router menu, navigate to WAN and then Internet Connection. Set the WAN Connection Type to Automatic IP (DHCP). Ensure authentication is set to None, then apply and save the settings.
Step 4: Configure VLAN Settings
Go to LAN and then IPTV. Set the ISP Profile to Manual Setting. Enter VLAN ID 10 for the Internet field and set the Priority to 0. Leave all other fields unchanged, then apply the configuration.
Step 5: Apply Settings
After entering the WAN and VLAN settings, click Apply. The router may restart automatically. Allow a few minutes for the router to restart before continuing.
Step 6: Check the Internet Connection
Once the router has restarted, check that the WAN or Internet indicator light is on and stable. Open a website on a connected device to confirm the internet connection is working.
Step 7: Troubleshooting
If the internet connection is not working, power off both the ONT and the router for 30 seconds, then turn them back on. Check that the Ethernet cable is connected to the correct ports and confirm that the WAN and VLAN settings are correct.
Step 8: Factory Reset If Required
If you cannot access the router or the configuration is incorrect, reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 to 15 seconds using a paperclip until the lights begin to flash. Wait for the router to restart, then repeat the setup steps.
