Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
Step 1: Connect Your Router to the ONT
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the WAN port on your ASUS RT-AC88U router to the correct port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT), usually labelled LAN1 or GE1. Please refer to your Zeronet connection details to confirm the correct port. Ensure the router is powered on and your device is connected to the router using Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
Step 2: Access the Router Interface
Open a web browser on a connected device and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. When prompted, log in to the router. The default login details are admin for both the username and password, unless these have been changed previously.
Step 3: Configure the WAN Connection
From the router interface menu, go to WAN and then Internet Connection. Set the WAN Connection Type to Automatic IP (DHCP). Ensure that authentication is set to None, then save the settings.
Step 4: Configure VLAN Settings
Navigate to LAN and then IPTV. Set the ISP Profile to Manual Setting. Enter VLAN ID 10 for the Internet field and set the Priority to 0. Leave all other fields blank and save the changes.
Step 5: Apply and Save Settings
After completing the WAN and VLAN configuration, click Apply. The router may reboot automatically. Allow a few minutes for the router to restart before continuing.
Step 6: Check Internet Status
Once the router has restarted, check that the WAN or Internet light on the router is on and stable. Try loading a website on a connected device to confirm that the internet connection is working.
Step 7: Basic Troubleshooting
If you are unable to connect to the internet, power off both the ONT and the router for 30 seconds, then turn them back on. Check that all cables are securely connected and that the correct VLAN and WAN settings have been entered.
Step 8: Factory Reset (If Required)
If you cannot access the router or the settings are incorrect, you can reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 to 15 seconds using a paperclip. Release the button once the lights begin to flash and wait for the router to reboot.
