Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
1. Connect your router to the ONT
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the WAN port on your ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 router to the active port on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT). The correct ONT port is typically labelled LAN1 or GE1. Make sure the router is powered on and your computer or mobile device is connected to the router using Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
2. Access the router admin interface
Open a web browser on a device connected to the router. Enter 192.168.50.1 or router.asus.com into the address bar. When prompted to log in, enter the default username admin and the default password admin. If the router has already been configured and you do not know the login details, you may need to reset the router before continuing.
3. Set the internet connection type
Once logged in, navigate to WAN and then Internet Connection. Set the WAN Connection Type to Automatic IP. Authentication settings should be left as None. Apply the changes to continue.
4. Configure VLAN settings
Go to LAN and then IPTV. Set the ISP Profile to Manual Setting. Enter 10 as the Internet VLAN ID and set the priority value to 0. Leave all other fields unchanged, then apply the settings.
5. Save and apply settings
After completing the internet and VLAN configuration, ensure all changes are applied. The router may briefly restart while the settings are saved.
6. Check the internet connection
Once the router has finished applying the settings, check that the WAN or Internet indicator light on the router is solid. Use a connected device to load a website to confirm that the internet connection is working correctly.
7. Troubleshooting connection issues
If the internet does not connect, restart both the ONT and the router by disconnecting them from power for 30 seconds and then reconnecting them. Confirm that the Ethernet cable is securely connected and recheck the VLAN and internet settings in the router admin interface.
8. Reset the router if required
If you are unable to access the router or the configuration is incorrect, you can reset the router to factory defaults. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 to 15 seconds until the lights begin flashing. Once reset, log in again using the default credentials and repeat the setup process.
