Modem/RouterFrom 17 November, you will need a fibre modem/router for your setup at home. Your standard Gigabit modem/router will work but if you wish to realise the full throughput of your Hyperfibe connection, you will need to upgrade to a Hyperfibre-ready modem/router. Many electronics retailers sell Hyperfibre-ready routers and we recommend our partner, PB Tech, who has a great range here. |
What is Hyperfibre?
Internet has become an essential part of our daily lives, and as technology advances, so does the need for faster and more reliable internet connectivity. Hyperfibre is the latest offering in this area, providing ultra-fast and symmetrical internet speeds. Unlike standard fibre plans available in NZ that are a max of 1Gbps/500Mbps, Hyperfibre starts at 2000Mbps* (2Gbps) upload and download.
Is Hyperfibre suited for me?
Hyperfibre is best suited for users who require the highest possible internet speeds, perfect for businesses, e-sports, gaming, content creators and those with large data uploading and downloading requirements. With Hyperfibre, you can upload and download data at ultra-fast speeds that were previously unimaginable.
Features
- Hyperfibre ONT has 1 x 10GB Ethernet port. The 4x1Gb Ethernet ports are disabled by the Network.
- Symmetrical Connection speeds - important for better video call quality and faster gaming.
- Fastest Broadband Connection Speeds available in New Zealand.
Ordering
If you already have a Hyperfibre ONT installed (Type 110 - This is different to the standard ONT) then getting connected is simple and quick as we can do a remote connection.
If you have already had a standard ONT installed and want to get Hyperfibre then a new ONT will need to be installed. In most instances, Network Build is required before they can proceed with the new install. Network build typically takes around 30 days for existing ONTs, though this may vary depending on the work required.
If you have not had fibre installed before then standard install process and time frames would apply.
Time frames for new installs vary based on a number of factors including consent required, network build and tech availability.
If you are upgrading from a standard ONT to Hyperfibre ONT excluding network build and consent (if applicable) timeframes are typically between 2-4 weeks depending on tech availability.
Key things to Note
- Currently we only offer Hyperfibre on the Chorus network but we are looking to expand to the other LFC networks in the future.
- Chorus discontinued ordering for RGW (ONT WiFi) on 19 November. Those already provisioned on RGW will continue to be supported for another 12 months.
- The Hyperfibre ONT (Type 110) has 1x 10GB Ethernet port. You will need your own modem/router because the 4x1Gb Ethernet ports are disabled by the network. It no longer supports ONT Wi-Fi.
- To get the best out of your connection it is recommended you use a Cat6e or better cable and check the network compatibility of your devices as not all are able to take advantage of the increased speeds.
