Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
1. Connect Your Router to the ONT
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the WAN port of your Linksys MX4200 router to the first port (LAN1 or GE1) on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT). Sometimes the second port may be used—check your Zeronet welcome email for which port to use. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or smartphone is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
2. Access the Router’s Admin Panel (Manual Configuration Part 1)
Open a web browser on a connected device and enter 192.168.1.1 (or myrouter.local) in the address bar. You may be prompted to download the Linksys app—click the mobile icon if prompted. Log in using your router password (check the router’s information tag if you haven’t set one). If you have changed the password and cannot remember it, proceed to Step 8 to reset the router.
3. Internet Connection Type (DHCP) & VLAN Settings (Manual Configuration Part 2)
Once logged in:
- You will be redirected to the home page; select Connectivity.
- Go to Internet Settings (IPv4) and set the Internet connection type to Dynamic IP (DHCP).
- Navigate to VLAN, enable VLAN, and set the Internet VLAN (Trunk) settings as follows:
- VLAN ID:
10 - Tag: Tagged
- Priority:
0
- VLAN ID:
- Click Apply, then OK to save.
4. Setup via the Linksys App (Alternative Method)
For first-time setup, you can use the Linksys app:
- Download the app and create an account.
- Launch the app and select Set up a New Wi-Fi Network.
- Follow in-app prompts. When asked for ISP settings, enter:
- Internet connection type: Dynamic IP (DHCP)
- VLAN ID:
10 - VLAN Priority:
0
5. Save the Configuration
After entering VLAN and DHCP settings via the web interface or app, click Apply to save. The router may restart; wait a few minutes for the restart to complete.
6. Verify the Internet Connection
Check the WAN/Internet LED—it should be solid white. Test connectivity by accessing a website from a connected device.
7. Troubleshooting (if needed)
If your internet is not working:
- Restart both the ONT and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
- Double-check VLAN and DHCP settings in the router configuration.
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the correct ONT port and router WAN port.
8. Reset the Router (if Required)
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten credentials or misconfiguration:
- Locate the reset button on the back of the router.
- Press and hold for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip.
- Release when the router lights start flashing; it will reboot to factory settings.
- Log in using the default credentials and repeat the configuration process from Step 2.
