Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
1. Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN (Internet) port of the TP‑Link Archer MR400 AC1200 router to the first port (LAN1 or GE1) on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an Ethernet cable. Sometimes you may need to connect to the second port — check your Welcome email instructions to confirm which port to use. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or smartphone is connected via Wi‑Fi or a LAN cable.
2. Access the Router’s Admin Panel
On a connected device, open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 or http://tplinkmodem.net in the address bar. You will be prompted to log in. The default credentials are:
- Username:
admin - Password:
admin
If you have changed these credentials and cannot remember them, proceed to Step 8 to reset the router.
3. Internet Connection Type Settings (DHCP)
Navigate to Advanced > Network > Internet and set the Connection Type to Dynamic IP (DHCP). Click Save or Apply to confirm the changes.
4. Configure VLAN Settings
Navigate to Advanced > Network > VLAN Settings and enable VLAN Tagging. Enter:
- VLAN ID: 10
- Priority: 0
Tick 802.1Q Tag. Optional settings can be left as default:
- VoIP VLAN ID: 20
- VoIP VLAN Priority: 1
- IPTV VLAN ID: 30
- IPTV VLAN Priority: 2
Click Save or Apply to confirm.
5. Save the Configuration
After configuring VLAN and DHCP settings, click Save or Apply. The router may restart automatically — wait a few minutes for the restart to complete.
6. Verify the Internet Connection
Check the WAN/Internet LED on the router — it should be solid green if the connection is active. Test the connection on a connected device by opening a website.
7. Troubleshooting (If Needed)
If the internet is not working:
- Restart both the ONT and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then plugging them back in.
- Double-check VLAN and DHCP settings in the router’s admin panel.
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected (first port on the ONT and WAN port on the router).
8. Reset the Router (If Required)
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten credentials or misconfiguration:
- Locate the reset button at the back of the router.
- Press and hold the reset button for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip.
- Release the button when the router lights flash. The router will reboot to factory settings.
- Log in using default credentials (
admin/admin) and repeat the setup from Step 2.
