Ka pai! You’ve chosen to use your own router, which is great — it helps reduce e-waste and is better for the environment. Because this is a BYO router, we won’t be able to provide hands-on support for setup, as there are too many different models on the market. That said, we’ve put together this guide to help you get connected. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer for support. Alternatively, if you’d like to use one of our Zeronet routers, get in touch with our team and we’ll happily organise that for you.
1. Connect Your Router to the ONT
Connect the WAN (internet) port of the TP‑Link Archer C1200 router to the first port (LAN1 or GE1) on your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) using an ethernet cable. Sometimes the second port may be used instead of the first — check your Welcome email instructions to confirm which port you should use. Ensure the router is powered on and that your computer or smartphone is connected to the router via Wi‑Fi or a LAN cable.
2. Access the Router’s Admin Panel
On a device connected to the router, open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 or http://tplinkwifi.net into the address bar. You will be prompted to log in. The default credentials are:
- Username:
admin - Password:
admin
If you have changed these credentials and cannot remember them, see step 8 to reset the router.
3. Internet Connection Type Settings (DHCP)
Once logged in:
- Go to Advanced > Network > Internet.
- Set the Connection Type to Dynamic IP (DHCP).
- Click the Advanced arrow and configure:
- DNS Address: Get dynamically from ISP
- MTU: 1500
- MAC Clone: Use Default MAC Address
- Click Save or Apply to confirm.
4. Configure VLAN Settings
To set up VLAN:
- Go to Advanced > Network > IPTV.
- Configure as follows:
- VLAN ID: 10
- Priority: 0
- Tick 802.1Q Tag
- Optional (can leave as is):
- IP‑Phone VLAN ID: 20
- IP‑Phone VLAN Priority: 1
- IPTV VLAN ID: 30
- IPTV VLAN Priority: 2
- Click Save.
5. Save the Configuration
After entering the VLAN and DHCP settings, click Save or Apply to confirm. The router may restart automatically — allow a few minutes for this process to complete.
6. Verify the Internet Connection
Check the WAN/Internet LED on the router — it should be solid green if the connection is active. On a connected device, try opening a website to confirm internet access.
7. Troubleshooting (If Needed)
If your internet is not working:
- Restart both the ONT and the router by unplugging them for about 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.
- Double-check the VLAN and Dynamic IP (DHCP) settings in the router admin panel.
- Ensure the ethernet cable is securely inserted into the correct ports (WAN on router, first port on ONT).
8. Reset the Router (If Required)
If you cannot access the router due to forgotten credentials or misconfiguration:
- Locate the reset button on the back of the router.
- Press and hold the button for 10–15 seconds using a pin or paperclip.
- Release when the router lights flash. The router will reboot and return to factory defaults.
- Log in using default credentials (
admin/admin) and repeat the setup from step 2.
